It's always hard to meet your required daily dose of fruit and vegetables in your system.
This fruit juice tastes like a sweet fruity slushie. A super healthy delicious drink for the whole family!
Super Juice Slushies
Usually, Thermomix juice recipes require fresh fruit/vegetables with added ice. The ice in the Thermomix enables the fibre to homogenise into liquids and makes it a really smooth texture (unlike juicers or the 'bullet' type juicers which results in a floating layer of brown foamy mushiness). The Thermomix breaks down the fibres so it isn't stringy or gritty. Thermomix blades rotate at 10,700rpm. So the blades are blitzing right through the fruit/veg 10,700 times just to make this fruit slushie, given that this takes 1 minute at the max speed 10! (No, I am not a consultant lol)
Instead of adding ice, I FREEZE the fruit and vegetables in ready to go zip lock packs, so that:
1. It's more convenient because who could be bothered cutting up fruit/veg every single time you want a juice,
2. The fruit and vegetables become the 'ice' required to homogenise the fibres into liquid, and
3. The juice isn't 'watered down' by frozen water when it can be just pure fruit/vegetables/coconut water
Pre-Packed Ziplock Bags ready for the freezer
I usually have a cutting/chopping session of fruit and vegetables into 12 x ziplock bags, each with 550 grams of mixed fruit and vegetables. The quick and easy recipe is as follows:
SUPER SLUSHIE
Ingredients:
550 grams frozen mixed fruit and vegetables*
1 tsp Chia Seeds (can be added to the pre packed bags before freezing)
650 grams Coconut Water
Makes approx. 2 large glasses for the adults (and a little more for the boys). I also sometimes make it up in the morning and keep it in the fridge to drink throughout the day.
Method:
Add the frozen bag of fruit/veg/chia seeds, with the coconut water in your Thermomix bowl.
Place your lid on with your spatula in the lid hole instead of the MC.
Set your Thermomix to 1 minute/Speed 10, with your spatula in, constantly stirring.
*The mixed fruit and vegetables that I use include:
Fruit:
- Red Apple
- Green Apple
- Orange
- Pineapple
- Rockmelon
- Watermelon
- Strawberries
Vegetable:
- Celery
- Fresh Beetroot
- Carrot
- Kale Leaves
- Spinach Leaves
You could add whatever fruit or vegetable mix you want including ginger, however I have omitted that to be more 'kid friendly'. You could also put banana in there, but I prefer to have 'juicier' type fruit and veg in there so it is more refreshing.
I call them slushies, as when the fibre of the fruit/veg is blitzed with its juice, it has more of a slushie texture than a juicey one!
Keep your spatula in and stirring while it mixes!
